“Free” can mean a permanent limited tier, a short preview, a trial requiring a card, or simply free registration followed by paid credits. Do not equate these.
How to read this guide: Product documentation and editorial fit are not the same as independent hands-on testing. A blank or unverified allowance is not a zero. Prices and feature policies can change.
| Service | What publicly documented free access means | Important catch |
|---|---|---|
| Nomi | Provider wiki describes an ongoing free plan with 50 messages/day | Recheck in-app availability, current daily allowance and feature access |
| Replika | Official “Free Use” with limited access | Provider may restrict Free Use; advanced features require subscription |
| Kindroid | One-time ~50-message preview (15 in certain regions) | 3-day premium trial requires payment method and auto-renews |
| OurDream | Free signup is not free unlimited messaging; provider documentation lists 1 coin per free-user message | Media requires paid access and paid subscription unlocks more functionality |
| Other reviewed services | Not verified in current research | No claim of a free tier until tested |
Which free plan should you try first?
If ongoing free conversations are essential, Nomi and Replika are better places to investigate than Kindroid’s one-time preview. Nomi’s provider wiki lists a specific daily message allowance, while Replika describes its Free Use tier but does not promise unrestricted access.
If your primary interest is Kindroid’s configurable memory, its preview can still tell you something about the interface—but its paid trial requires a payment method and a cancellation reminder. The preview is not a permanent free alternative.
Four questions that expose misleading “free” offers
1. Can I send messages again tomorrow? A finite sign-up allotment differs from a recurring daily limit.
2. Is a payment card needed? Write down the exact end date of a trial and how to cancel.
3. Which model and media tools are included? “Free messages” may exclude calls, images, better models or memory.
4. What is the first recurring charge? A zero-dollar trial that renews into a higher tier should be compared against the full renewal amount.
