The most useful AI companion depends on whether you want durable conversation, a mainstream virtual friend, or an adult image-and-video product. These require different subscriptions and different evaluation tests.
How to read this guide: Product documentation and editorial fit are not the same as independent hands-on testing. A blank or unverified allowance is not a zero. Prices and feature policies can change.
| If your priority is… | Start here | Why this shortlist (not a benchmark ranking) |
|---|---|---|
| Configurable memory and control | Kindroid | Detailed documented backstory, memory and journal controls; finite free preview |
| Conversation continuity | Nomi | Shared notes and persistent identity positioning; assess the conversation experience yourself |
| A mainstream companion | Replika | Free Use and distinct paid Pro/Ultra/Platinum tiers documented |
| Metered adult video and images | OurDream | One of the clearest publicly documented coin schedules in our catalog |
| Polished adult media presentation | Candy AI | An editorial shortlist candidate; current media costs require independent confirmation |
Our decision framework: choose the constraint first
Most disappointing purchases come from choosing by the wrong metric. If remembering your conversations matters, test recall across sessions, corrections and context limits. If images matter, run several repeat prompts and track real credits spent. If a free plan matters, verify whether you can return tomorrow and continue chatting without paying.
We do not blend these use cases into an invented 9.6/10 score. Each service is compared to the job the buyer wants it to do. Missing data counts against certainty, not automatically against the product.
Price and free access: where the details change the choice
OurDream: its Standard help page lists $19.99 monthly or $119.88 annually billed upfront (equivalent $9.99/month), each with 1,000 Dreamcoins per month; media spends additional coins. Official plan terms.
Kindroid: its October 2026 help guide documents a one-time 50-message preview (15 in some regions) and a three-day premium trial that requires a card and automatically converts if not canceled. Official free/paid rules.
Replika: its free program is limited, while Pro, Ultra and Platinum include different features. Current prices are shown in checkout, and we do not present an unsupported universal USD amount. Official subscription help.
A 20-minute evaluation that beats a top-ten list
Try the same three tasks on two products: (1) maintain a character preference and correct it once, (2) return to an earlier personal fact after a topic change, and (3) use one paid or free media operation and note what is deducted. Record the exact plan that enabled each result.
If you have a small budget, start with free-access options. If imagery drives the purchase, read our credit cost breakdown. For two closely matched services, use the head-to-head comparisons.
What we cannot conclude from desk research
We have not run standardized conversation or media-generation benchmarks on all twelve services. Descriptions of reliability, recall quality, image consistency or latency would be guesses without that work. The site separates current provider statements, archived editorial impressions and unknown details so you can make an informed choice.
Which companion should you shortlist first?
| Buying priority | Best research starting point | What is substantiated | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Memory controls | Kindroid | Documented journals, backstory, Cascaded Memory and memory tiers | 50-message preview in most regions; model/tier affects the paid experience |
| Ongoing no-cost dialogue | Nomi | Provider wiki describes 50 messages/day | US iOS Standard Plan listed at $15.99; check billing term |
| Media cost calculation | OurDream | $19.99 Standard and published Dreamcoin unit costs | Extra coin top-up prices remain unknown |
| Adult roleplay and model choice | CrushOn | Free Models versus metered Pro Model credits documented | Model access and retention depend on tier |
| Mainstream virtual friend | Replika | Free, Pro, Ultra and Platinum tiers documented | Current checkout price depends on app/store |
Practical conclusion: There is no one winner for these five different jobs. Choose by the single constraint that would make you unhappy after subscribing. Our picks are research starting points, not test-lab performance rankings.
Four buying paths with different trade-offs
If you care about persistent relationships: compare Kindroid’s configurable memory with Nomi’s relationship-focused experience. These are not interchangeable products: Kindroid’s published new-account preview is finite, whereas Nomi’s provider-maintained FAQ documents 50 free messages per day. That difference affects how far you can investigate before entering a payment method.
If you care about media: OurDream gives enough published Dreamcoin rates to build an explicit usage budget. With its monthly Standard reference plan, 1,000 coins cover 20 standard images (100 coins), four standard five-second videos (400 coins) and five voice minutes (250 coins), leaving 250 coins. This budget is illustrative, not a test of output quality or a guarantee of checkout pricing in every region.
If you care about adult roleplay: examine provider restrictions, renewal pricing and whether images or video use an additional currency. For services whose rates are behind signup, no claimed “cheapest” winner is justified.
If you are price-sensitive: first compare the kind of free access, not the word “free” on a signup button. Then check paid plan duration, renewal and charge for extras.

| Service | Published price | Free use | Critical buying fact | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kindroid | Monthly plan: regional checkout | Official subscriptions documentation: a one-time preview of 50 messages (15 in some regions), plus five selfies and 5,000 audio credits. After the preview, the account becomes read-only unless subscribed. The three-day trial requires payment details and auto-converts unless cancelled. | A 50-message (sometimes 15-message) new-account preview is not a permanent free plan. A three-day payment-method trial can auto-renew; Ultra and MAX add-ons increase cost beyond Standard. | Provider documentation ↗ |
| Nomi | $15.99 US iOS Standard Plan | The provider-maintained Nomipedia documents an indefinite free plan with 50 messages per day. Subscription price varies by chosen plan and purchase channel and was not confirmed in publicly accessible first-party materials. | Nomi documents a recurring free allowance of 50 messages/day. Its US iOS Store lists Standard Plan at $15.99 (interval not explicit), $39.99 quarterly and $99.99 yearly; additional Nomi Credits are optional paid purchases. | Provider documentation ↗ |
| ourdream.ai | $19.99/mo documented reference | Provider documentation states free-user chats cost 1 Dreamcoin each; do not assume a continuing no-cost allowance. | At monthly Standard billing, 20 standard images + four 5-second videos + five voice minutes cost 750 Dreamcoins; 250 of the 1,000 monthly grant remain. 100 standard images + ten videos + five call minutes cost 1,750 Dreamcoins, a 750-coin shortfall before extra purchases. | Provider documentation ↗ |
| Candy.ai | $13.99/mo documented reference | Provider terms state free users may generally send up to five messages; this is not an ongoing unlimited free plan. | Candy AI’s terms describe generally five free messages, paid unlimited messaging and generally 100 monthly tokens for extra features, with exact checkout allowances controlling. | Provider documentation ↗ |
